Four animals were euthanized due to serious injuries sustained during the 2024 Calgary Stampede rodeo and chuckwagon races.
- Friday, July 5: A horse on Danny Ringuette’s team sustained an injury due to wagon interference during the sixth heat.
- Saturday, July 6: An outrider horse on Chance Thomson’s team sustained a serious injury during the second heat.
- Monday, July 8: A steer was seriously injured during a steer wrestling event, in which the animal’s neck is twisted back until he falls to the ground.
- Saturday, July 13: A horse on Obrey Motowylo’s team suffered a fracture during the eighth heat of the chuckwagon races.
The death toll of the Stampede rodeo and chuckwagon races has now reached 109 animals since 1986, including 78 horses used in the chuckwagon races.
